Adele C. Block of Guttenberg died Monday December 7, 2009, at the Guttenberg Care Center after a long illness. She was born December 27, 1934 in Guttenberg, the daughter of Lawrence and Adeline (Kann) Hoeger. Adele attended St. Marys School and graduated with honors in 1953. On January 29, 1955, she was united in marriage with Gerald (Red) Block. Adele was a homemaker for many years but she also worked as a telephone operator in Charles City IA. She worked for Muters for 12 years and she was a dispatcher for the police department in Guttenberg. Adele loved music and dancing to the big bands. She was a lifetime member of St. Marys Catholic Church and a member of the St. Marys Choir for 20 years. Surviving are her husband Gerald (Red) Block; two sisters, Germaine Hoeger of Guttenberg and Arlene Handke of Waukon; one brother LaVern (Mary Ann) Hoeger of Guttenberg as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Merlin Hoeger.In Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the family of Adele Block.Visitation: Thursday 5:00 - 7:00 P.M.
