Andrew Joseph Elsinger

Andrew Joseph Elsinger, age 77, of Guttenberg, IA, died Friday, February 3, 2012, after a short illness. He was born the son of Andrew B. and Irene (Miller) Elsinger on June 4, 1934 in rural Guttenberg. Andy grew up and has spent most of his life in the Guttenberg area. He graduated from the St. Marys Catholic School with the class of 1952. After school he worked a short while before joining the United States Army serving until his honorable discharge. Before his time in the military, Andy farmed with his family. After his stint he continued farming for many years. On November 15, 1969, Andy married Marjorie Blaser at St. Marys Church in Guttenberg. Living in the Guttenberg area not only provided Andy with work but just as much free time pleasures such as Camping, hunting, fishing and golfing which he was a charter member of the Guttenberg Country Club. Andy was also a lay person for St. Marys Church and served on the Board of Trustees for Security State Bank. Andys memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Marjorie; children, Gina Dahlstrom-Osburn, Jody Dahlstrom, Leslie Schmelzer, Renee Burns, Lonnie Dahlstrom, Cheryl (Ken) Steadman, Angela (Dave) Spickermann and Steven Elsinger; eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; siblings, Cyrenus Elsinger, Cyril (Carol) Elsinger, Tom (Debbie) Elsinger, Joan (William) Saunders, Lois (Edward) Davis; sister in law Jane Elsinger and brother in law Andrew Haman and many nieces, nephews and friends. Andy is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Verna Haman; brother, Frank Elsinger and sister in law, Bernyce Elsinger.In Lieu of all types of sympathy memorials are preferred and can be sent to either St. Marys School or the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.Visitation: Monday 3:00 - 7:00 P.M.
