April (Walters) Finnegan, age 89, of Guttenberg, IA, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the River Living Center in Guttenberg. She was born the daughter of Marvin and Hanna (Smith) Walters on April 1, 1921 on the family farm northeast of Colesburg. After graduating high school, April attained further education to become a teacher. Over the years she taught at various country schools. On September 1, 1943, April was married to Wallace Finnegan at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Colesburg. April loved her home and took pride in keeping it up. She was proud of her flowers that she worked with each year. She took pleasure in being politically active. Often she could be found volunteering at the Lockmasters House Heritage Museum or the Amvets Club. April had a remarkable collection of glass baskets. Her hobbies were very much her husbands hobbies. They did many things together from finishing antiques to various jobs on the farm. Together they were blessed with a son Michael who then gave his mother two granddaughters whom she loved tremendously. April will be forever loved and cherished by her son, Michael (Lynne) Finnegan of Colesburg; two granddaughters, Michelle and Brianna Finnegan; one brother Gerald "Bill" (Lois) Walters of Colesburg and her sister in law Colleen Walters of Garber. April was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, Mary Learn, Bernice Kubicek, Marjorie Peters, Freda Swanson; five brothers, Theodore, Kenneth, Layton, Dale and Wayne Walters.Visitation: Thursday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
