Arlene Poggenklass

Arlene Lucille Poggenklass was born the daughter of Howard and Alice (Sage) Cumberland on February 9, 1923 near Hazleton, Iowa. She left the Guttenberg Care Center and entered heaven on Thursday, January 6, 2011. Arlene graduated from the Oelwein High School in 1941 and taught rural school for several years. On June 14, 1945 she was united in marriage with Francis "Frank" Martin Poggenklass. Together they were blessed with one son David. Arlene was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her flowers, roses were her specialty. She belonged to the Oelwein La Fleur Guild for many years. Arlene was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. She came to live in Guttenberg the last 4 years of her life. She had a love of roosters, music, having her hair fixed and she was always well dressed. Those left to cherish her memory are her son David (Barb) Poggenklass of Guttenberg; three grandsons, Michael (Kirstin), Dan (Megan) Poggenklass both of Cedar Rapids and Robert Poggenklass of Newport News Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Anga, Evan, Ava, Isabel & Oliver and a sister in law Mildred Cumberland. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Edith Davis; brothers, Forrest, Chester, Lester, Merle and Glenn.In Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to 110 Goethe St. Guttenberg, Iowa, 52052.Visitation: Sunday 1:00 - 3:00 P.M.
