Arthur Emil Scherf was born December 6, 1939 to Chris & Lenora (Esmann) Scherf of RR Elkader. Art died at home following cancer surgery on April 12, 2010. He was baptized December 10th 1939 by Pastor Alexander Meyer on the home farm. Art was married on Feb 24, 1957 to Carol C Larson at Highland Lutheran Church by Pastor L.C. Urlaub. Art & Carol farmed the family farm for 30 years; from 1957 - 1987 they moved to Oceano, California in June 1987 where Art worked for 1 year at Burke & Pace Lumber. He then went to work for Miners Ace Hardware as an assistant manager then moved up to manager at Grover Beach and Morro Bay. Art & Carol lived in Chino Valley, Arizona one year before returning "home" to Garnavillo in 2005. Art truly enjoyed spending time with his family being the "papa" for all the daycare families. He also enjoyed traveling & collecting antiques. At the time of his death he was vice president of St Pauls Lutheran of Garnavillo. Art will be missed for his keen sense of humor, his quick wit, & his friendliness to everyone. Survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol C Scherf. Son Arthur L. (Gina Uriell,) Amber, Amanda, Alexander and Arthur W. (Duke) Scherf all of Garnavillo, IA. Daughter Amy Hirschfield, Casey, Cody Shell and JJ Hirschfeld of Lawton, OK. Son Andrew (Loralee), Autumn, Andrew Jr. & Topanga Scherf of Clovis, CA. Sisters Wilma Glawe, Elkader Gertrude (Ron) Meyer, Osterdock, Sister in law Bonnie Scherf, Sageville, Uncle Arthur Esmann, Guttenberg. Uncle James Vawter, Oelwein. Sister in law Beverly Fischer Lake Placid, FL, Ione (Robert) Leete Hawkeye, Kathleen Nagle, Charleston SC and Laura Scott, Cedar Rapids. Brothers in laws LeRoy (Danice) Larson, New Hampton, Larry (Lanette) Larson, Colorado Springs, Co., and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Proceeded in death by his parents Chris & Lenora Scherf, Sister Marie Mueller, Brother John C Scherf, Brother in laws, Dwayne Mueller, Bernelle Glawe ,Henry Fischer and Carols parents Harril & Mabel Larson. And numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The Scherf family would like to thank everyone who helped in any way at the time of Arts passing.
