Arthur W. Esmann

Arthur William Esmann, age 94, of Guttenberg, IA, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Guttenberg Care Center. He was born on August 13, 1918 on the family farm north of Guttenberg to Arthur William and Louise (Handke) Esmann. Art received his education from the Borcherding Country School just north of his home. For many years, Art farmed with his family on the same farm he was born on. On January 5, 1938, Art was united in marriage to Helen Nivarel at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Guttenberg where he was baptized and confirmed at years earlier. This marriage blessed Art and Helen with five children. Farming was a major part of Arts life and consumed much of his time. When he had free time, Art enjoyed cutting firewood, woodworking and making crafts, spending time in his garden and Art never met a stranger he didnt enjoy visiting with. Every day was a social gathering for Art and he truly enjoyed visiting with people. Art will be forever loved and cherished by his three daughters, Violet (Charles) Zittergruen, Helen (Loren) Duwe both of Guttenberg and Mary (David Drexler) Esmann of Dubuque; one son, Carl Esmann of Tiffin, IA; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and many many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen; daughter Alice Heitman; son Arthur Robert in infancy; four sisters, Hulda Beiderman, Gertrude Tackman, Ilsa Tackman and Lenora Scherf.Visitation: Thursday 3:00 - 7:00 January 10, 2013 at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home Guttenberg, Iowa and one hour before service at church.Funeral Service: Friday 10:30 A.M.
