Bernie was born on May 9, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Paul and Katherine (Koster) Hauber. He married Eunice C. Eilers on July 8, 1950 in Dyersville, Iowa. Bernie worked for John Deere from 1958 till 1983 when he retired. He was also a member of both the American Legion Post 137 and Knights of Columbus Council 1734 for 50 yrs. Bernie was a dedicated husband and father. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Eunice, a son Wayne (Cindy) of Ames, IA, 3 daughters: Ann (Craig) Rowley of Plano, TX, Janice (Bruce) Newendorp of Cedar Falls, IA and Sharon (Bill) Fowler of Longwood, FL, 8 grandchildren: Eric, Karl and Rachel Hauber, Laura Rowley, Brandon and Amanda Newendorp, Wesley and Matthew Fowler. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers: Paul, Andrew, Cletus and Everett Hauber and 1 sister: Sr. Paulette Hauber. Special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care and support, and to the nurses and staff at both Finley Hospital in Dubuque and Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville. The parish scripture service will be held at 4:30p.m. and the American Legion Post 137 Service at 7:00 p.m. Legion Post 137 will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
