Obituary Bernice Loraine Haas, age 93, of Garber, IA, died Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Guttenberg Care Center. Bernice was born on January 18, 1926, near Communia, the daughter of Robert and Elsa (Maehl) Koehn. She attended the local country school through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Leo Moser. To this union four children were born; sons Dee, Stevon, and Lynn, and a daughter, Maylo. They owned a gas station in Garnavillo and Garber for several years. They later divorced. On May 20, 1967, Bernice was united in marriage to LaVern Haas. To this union one daughter, Ann, was born. They lived near Dubuque until they moved to Garber in 1976. Bernice was a homemaker and cared for several foster children. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Guttenberg and a member of the Plagman Barn in charge of cutting and serving pies during Show Days for several years. She loved spending time with family and friends, cooking, canning, gardening and being outdoors barefoot. She also enjoyed crocheting with thread and yarn, feeding song birds and watching birds and other animals. She especially enjoyed bald eagles. Survivors include her husband, LaVern, of Garber; two sons, Stevon (Mary) Moser, "wanderers", Lynn (Christina) Moser of Olin, and one daughter Ann (Mark) Payne of Elkader; eight grandchildren, Naomi Smith of Blooming Prairie, MN, Scott (Kim) West of Stuart, FL, George (Kate) Moser of Cheyanne, WY, Caleb (Jill) Moser of Cedar Rapids, Alicia (Jeremy) Lenz of Farmersburg, Sean (Ana) Moser of Aberdeen, NC, Todd (Kawanaao) of Kona, HI, Charley Hicks (step-grandchild) of Riverside; fourteen great-grandchildren; Mandy (Dustin) Doocy, Ashley (Glenn) Valek, Misty (Chris) Karella, Justin Munson, Brandy Munson, Natasha Smith, Dudley Smith, DaVyll Smith, Russia Smith, Jude Moser, Carson Moser, Brooke (Gil) Doret, Tyler West and Zach West; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; Caden, Dante, Zoey, Gemini, Jaspher, Jaylynn, Harlee, Easton, Avalyn, Skylar, Linkynn, Reagan, Vera, and Krewden. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Maylo Maule; a son and daughter-in-law, Dee and Marilyn Moser; a brother, Harley (Evelyn) Koehn; three sisters, Vera (Alvin) Berns, Violet (Elmer) Hansel, and Reta (Clyde) Rentschler; and one granddaughters husband, Scott Smith.
