Bernice Trenkamp

Bernice was born on June 18, 1936 in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin and Eleanor (Scherbring) Fortmann. She was raised and educated in the Dyersville area. Bernice married Jerome Trenkamp on August 23, 1961, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa. She took pride with Jerome in being Godparents. They farmed and continue to farm west of Dyersville. Bernice was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish. She greatly enjoyed family gatherings, embroidery, dancing, gardening and traveling with Jerome. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jerome, 3 sisters: Alice (Clarence) Weber of Bernard, IA, Dorothy (John) Bittner of Guttenberg, IA, Mary Ann Oberfoell of Monticello, IA, 2 brothers: Ralph Fortmann and Ronald (Phyllis) Fortmann both of Dyersville, one sister-in-law, Rosie Kroeger of Petersburg, IA, 11 nieces and 7 nephews and many other great nephews and nieces, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, LaVern Fortmann and two brothers-in-law: Louis Oberfoell and Gene Kroeger and one niece, Mary Weber. Friends and relatives of Bernice may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Donald Hertges with Rev. Richard Gaul as concelebrant. The family wishes to extend their thanks to Dr. Nachtman, Medical Associates, Shady Rest Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Dubuque.
