GUTTENBERG, IOWA
Bernita Marcella (Herman) Moser, 90, of rural Edgewood made her journey into heaven on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at MercyOne Senior Care in Dyersville, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 9 – 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg, Iowa. Mass will commence at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Marvin Bries will officiate.
Bernita was born in Guttenberg, Iowa on December 20, 1932, the daughter of Art Sr. and Carmen Herman. She attended St. Mary’s School. Bernita married F. Jerome Moser in which three children were born, Jeffrey Jerome, Debbie Ann, and Carmen Jane. They farmed near Garber until divorced.
Bernita moved to rural Edgewood with life partner Dale Cheeseman where they farmed her 200 acre farm. She went back to Upper Iowa College in Fayette to get her Teaching Degree and became a 6th grade teacher at Maquoketa Valley in Delhi 1972 until retired in 2001.
Bernita deeply loves her kids, grand kids, and great grand kids and is so very proud of each for their individual and unique personalities. Each year she planted over 600 Salvias and numerous other flowers and planted an acre garden. She loved farming, traveling, spending time with her loved ones, teaching at MV and working with all the dance and gymnastics kids and their families and the USTA families. She made beautiful Afghans and loved baking for her loved ones.
Bernita will also always be remembered for her daily 8, or more, mile jogs or walks from her farm into Edgewood and back regardless of the weather, rain, deep snow, sleet, 100 and above or thirty below, praying the rosary the entire trip.
Bernita is survived by her loved ones; her son, Jeff (Debra) Moser of Garber; daughters: Debbie Moser (Fred Bisdorf) of Dyersville, Carmen Moser Payne (Cliff) of Edgewood; grandchildren: Kattie Payne Schulte (Luke) of Strawberry Point, Lucas (Melissa) Payne of Guttenberg, Tyler (Shari) Payne of Strawberry Point, Skyler (Itzel) Payne of San Antonio, Texas, Jenny Moser (Jerry Frain) of Austin, Texas, Gwen (Eric) Knutson of Huxley, Iowa, Amy Moser of Manchester, Debbie Jo Moser (Jason Hefel) of Holy Cross; great-grandchildren: Walker, Luka, Ike, Jorgie, Makenna, Madilyn, Lainey, Myles, Kian, Crue, Tyler Jason, Gavin, Kenzie, Josie, John, Nicholas, and many nieces, nephews; and a sister-in-law, Lilah Herman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Curtis and Art Herman Jr.
God blessed us with her joy, love, smiles. God blessed us with the number of years we were privileged to have her in our lives. Bernita had a positive impact on a countless number of lives. She touched the lives and hearts of many. She was kind, compassionate to all and smiles and a friendly hello to all. Bernita was strong, tough, and never complained of her pains or her work load. We are proud of the mother and person she was, all her accomplishments, her worldwide travels, her farm she was so proud of and worked on all her years.
Everyone loves Bernita, her smile lit up the world. Our oak tree--our strength. Because of her love, care, and teachings, we are who we are. Bernita will live in our hearts and in our actions forever. Our world will never be the same without her, but will be a better place because of her.
Our angel in Heaven. BERNITA MARCELLA MOSER 12/20/32
