Bertha Klas

Bertha Jeanette Klas, 82, of New Vienna, died Sunday, October 6, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City after a brief illness. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. John O'Connor. Bertha was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1930 in Petersburg, Iowa the daughter of Clem and Frances (Weber) Deppe. She married George H. Klas on October 18, 1949 in Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg. Together they raised their family and farmed near New Vienna. Bertha was a wonderful mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and farmwife who would have a meal ready for you when you walked in the door. She was always up for a good card game. Survivors include her children: Janet (Mike) Morrow of Tempe, AZ, Lois (Chuck) Votsmier of Waukon, Cheryl (Don) Kass of Farley, Daryl (Kim) Klas of St. Louis, MO, Judy (Randy) Winter of Marion, and David (Michelle) Klas of Ottumwa; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; siblings: Bill (Rosie) Deppe, Adella (Don) Helle, Gladys Schemmel, Hilda (Melvin) Reittinger, Sr. Julitta Deppe, OSF and a sister-in-law, Agnes Klas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, one brother, Lawrence Deppe, and in-laws: Helen Deppe, Leo Schemmel, Norma Deppe, Clara Klas, Ray Klas, Alma Rolfes and Al Rolfes.
