Betty Cook

Betty was born on October 16, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of Herman and Ione (Larson) Michel. She married Gene Cook on November 28, 1948 at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Together they farmed near Monticello until retirement in 1991. Betty had also worked as a telephone operator and at Collins Radio. Betty was an active member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, an avid bridge player, she enjoyed reading, humor and joke telling. She was an excellent cook and baker. As the recipient of a donated kidney she was a strong believer and advocate of organ donation and transplant. Her family was very important to her and she loved spending time with them. Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Gene, her children Linda (Ted)Willliams, Mt. Vernon, IA, Mike (Marita) Cook, Thompson, IA , Carolyn (Bill) Lutz, Ames, IA., Julie (Dennis) Weers, Anamosa, and Rick (Susan) Cook, Anamosa, grandchildren Chet (Shawn Tekenberg) and Karrie Williams (Darin Parker), Katie (Jim) Besler, Rachel (Jordan) Kent, Annie Lutz, Brock (Emily), Kristen (Jay Kloft), Lindsey, and Abby Weers, Alana (Evan Mc Kean) , Justin, and Brianne Cook, great grandchildren Kit and Kade Williams, Olivia and Deacon Besler, and Shay and Brennan Kent, and a sister Carol (Chris) Christopher, Detroit, MI.
