Betty Jean Tuecke, age 71, of Mc Gregor, IA, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the Great River Care Center in Mc Gregor, IA. She was born on September 2, 1938 in Millville Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Ida (Bittner) Miller. Betty was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. She received her education from the Millville and Guttenberg Schools. On February 14, 1955, Betty was united in marriage with Donald Tuecke at St. Johns Church in Guttenberg. Three children were born to this union, Donald Jr. Penny Sue and Lyle John. Betty had various jobs including, factory work, nurses aid, waitress and she worked for a fragrance and jewelry distributer and she was a TOPS coordinator. Betty was a charter member of TOPS # 917 Garnavillo since October 1975 where she also served in their office since 1975. In 1977, she was appointed Area Captain and in 1990, Coordinator for TOPS serving 18 counties in Iowa. She did bus tours for 12 years. Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served on the board of trusties at the Garnavillo Library and was a long time member of St. Peters Church. Betty served on the prayer chain for many years. She also served as a volunteer for substance abuse. Betty loved to travel. She traveled all 50 states plus many Canadian Providences and Mexico. She collected teddy bears, salt & Pepper sets, porcelain dolls, enjoyed embroidery work, reading, working on her computer. Betty had several poems published. She had a desire for county and western music. She had two special pets, Rascal the family dog and Snickers her cat which she referred to as her little girl. Betty enjoyed her indoor & deck plants, watching the birds & the occasional raccoon that came to the deck area. The outdoor cats and kittens offered tons of entertainment for Betty. Survivors include her children, Don Jr. (Pam) Tuecke of Dubuque, Penny (Gary) Handke of Arlington and Lyle (Bill Enke) Tuecke of Mc Gregor; four grandchildren, Melissa Benson, Todd (Karen) Tuecke, Holly Sipes, Cassie (Charles) Gruman; seven great grandchildren, Kristine and Kennedy Tuecke, Coltrane, Averi and Jakolby Sipes, Maria and Jacen Gruman. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don Sr.; one sister Joyce in infancy and one grandson Austin Benson.Visitation: Thursday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
