Betty Schmitt

Betty Louise (Hannan) Schmitt, age 83, of Guttenberg, IA, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Schmitt) Hannan on June 17, 1928, in Richardsville IA Betty attended and graduated from the Bankston High School. For many years she owned and operated the Guttenberg Motel all the while raising a family of six children. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and St. Annes Society. She enjoyed making crafts for the St. Marys Fall Festival, keeping busy with all the duties of operating the motel and spending time with her family. Betty is survived by her children, Chuck Schmitt of Richardsville IA, Patrick Schmitt of Des Moines, Dan (Lynn) Schmitt of Guttenberg, Diane Hubbard of Casper Wyoming and Donna (Bob) Hinzman; seven grandchildren, Dan (Jody) Pierce, TJ (Brooke) Pierce, Jeremy Hubbard, Steph Wharton, Tonya (Thomas) Vogt, Jessica Schmitt, Dan (Heather) Schmitt; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (Jim) McCloy of Maquoketa and Karen Oberfoell of Dubuque; three sisters in law, Rita Kueter, Eileen Klein, Geraldine Sanner and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Jerry Schmitt and sister Joan Breitbach.Visitation: Monday 3:00 - 8:00 P.M.
