William (Bill) George Freiburger, 89 of Delhi, Iowa passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Good Neighbor Society, Manchester, following a short illness. Bill was born July 17, 1929, in Earlville, Iowa to John and Anna (Besler) Freiburger. He attended local rural schools. Bill was united in marriage to Irene R. Takes on February 10, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. Together they made their home and farmed in the Delhi area raising a family of five children. Survivors include three sons: William (Bill) Jr. and his wife Susan, of Pecatonica, Illinois, Patrick James and his wife Wendy, of Delhi and Eugene Loras and his wife Lorena, of Lisbon; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and a sister, Anna Marie Steffen of Dyersville. Bill is also survived by longtime friend and companion Eileen Grutz. Bill was preceded in death by two infant daughters: Mary Kay and Joan; his wife, Irene; daughter in law, Marian; his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Bill enjoyed talking to people and could easily strike up a conversation with a total stranger. He was a fixture at farm auctions and stock sale barns. Bill also enjoyed playing Euchre and spending time with his family and friends. His stories and sense of humor will be greatly missed. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi, Iowa. Private services will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church and Cemetery, Delhi, Iowa. The family would like to thank the staff at the Above and Beyond Home Care, Good Neighbor Society and the Regional Medical Center Hospice for the aid and comfort in taking care of their dad.
