Blanche Amelia Nelson was born the daughter of Jacob and the Gurine (Roones) Dahlen on May 5, 1917 in Milnor North Dakota where she lived with her parents until she married Clarence Nelson on January 9, 1937. Clarence and Blanche were married in Britton, South Dakota, but called North Dakota their home, where Gordon (1937), Shirley (1938) and Carol (1942) Nelson were born. After World War II, the Nelsons moved to Colesburg, Iowa, where they owned and operated the local tavern. Betty was born in 1946, when the family resided in Colesburg. In the late forties, they moved to Guttenberg, Iowa, where Judy was born (1950). In 1954, Clarence and Blanche moved to Farmersburg and owned the tavern/restaurant until 1961, when they returned to Guttenberg, where they resided for the rest of their lives. Blanche loved to sew and was an excellent cook. She taught Sunday school at St Pauls Lutheran Church in Guttenberg in the early fifties. She was the mainstay for the Nelson family through four generations. Blanche was Mother to five and Grandmother to many. Those left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Shirley Streiff of Rochester, Minn, Carol (Jon) Burlingame of Prairie Du Chien, Wis., Betty (Robert) Burlingame of Torrington, Wyo., Judy (Richard) Miller of Colesburg; sixteen grandchildren and many 3rd and 4th generation grandchildren and many nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Gordon, one sister, Bertina and two brothers, Hans and Gunnar.Funeral Service: Monday 10:00 A.M.
