Bruce Kevin Godfrey

Obituary Bruce Kevin Godfrey was born on March 23, 1955 in Red Oak, Iowa to Ted Donald Godfrey and Mardelle Hedemann Godfrey. During his childhood, Bruces father was a state trooper with the Iowa State Patrol and through his dedication of service to the citizens of Iowa and numerous assignments, the family moved several times with Bruce growing up in a number of towns. Bruce attended Bettendorf High School, in Bettendorf, Iowa, where he was an all-state lineman for the Bettendorf Bulldogs football team, which earned him a scholarship to play football for Luther College, in Decorah, Iowa. He graduated with honors from Bettendorf High School in 1973. He went on to play football all four years at Luther College until an injury sidelined him during his senior year. While attending college he was also a part of the Kappa Phi Tau fraternity. In 1977, Bruce graduated from Luther College with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. After graduation, Bruce moved to Des Moines, Iowa to be closer to his family. He applied for and obtained a job with the IRS, where he spent his entire 43 year career. He married Patricia Jean Marvin on October 10, 1981 in Des Moines, Iowa and to this union, three children were born, Mike, Katie and Sarah. In 1986, Bruce got a career advancement opportunity in Houston, Texas and he and Pat moved their family to the Katy, Texas area, where they have lived ever since. Bruce was a family man. He loved to be involved in his childrens lives and never missed one of their sporting events. He attended nearly every event and was always there to support them, some as the team coach, while other as a spectator. This passion for supporting his kids continued even into their college years with travelling out of town to all of their events, including a trips to Arlington, Texas and to Oklahoma. He was a very selfless and loyal man, who gave the best bear hugs. He was the greatest "Peepaw" to his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Bruce was highly intelligent and enjoyed talking with family and friends, including conversations covering just about anything. He enjoyed watching Sci-Fi movies and old westerns, especially John Wayne movies. Bruce loved listening to oldies music and collecting model trains. One of his greatest passions was celebrating Halloween and Christmas. He was known for was his decorating skills during Halloween and Christmas time and won numerous neighborhood awards for his decorating. Bruce Kevin Godfrey passed away on September 16, 2020 in Katy, Texas at 65 years of age. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 39 years, Pat Godfrey of Katy; his three children, Mike Godfrey of Houston, Katie Elliott and her husband Paul of Katy and Sarah Godfrey of Katy; his grandchildren, Hannah Elliott, Luke Elliott and Madelyn Elliott; his brother, Gary Godfrey and his wife Diane of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his sister, Cindy Lindquist and her husband Paul of Waunakee, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted Donald Godfrey and Mardelle Lois Hedemann Godfrey.
