Catherine Locher Curphy

MONTICELLO, IOWA Catherine “Kay” Locher Curphy, of Cascade, and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, at 99 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2016, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate. Catherine was born July 20, 1917 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Lawrence R. Locher, D.D.S. and Gertrude (Tuel) Locher. Catherine was the second oldest of six children. She attended grade school and high school at Sacred Heart School in Monticello and then graduated from Mount Mercy Junior College in 1937 where she studied Art and Piano. Catherine was an avid reader. Catherine is survived by her daughter, Karen (Herb) Platten of Harpers Ferry, IA., grandchildren: Renee (Wesley) Leeper of Clarence, IA., Elizabeth Albaugh of North Liberty, IA., Scott Reilly of Marion, IA, 6 great-grandchildren, siblings: Thomas L. Locher, Jane M. Locher, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Lawrence E. Curphy, siblings: John M. Locher, James A. Locher, Lois M.
