Catherine Steffen

NEW VIENNA, IOWA Catherine M. Steffen, 96, of New Vienna died Monday, December 11, 2017, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Friday from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017, St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O’Connor will officiate and Rev. Dan Knipper will concelebrate. Catherine was born April 20, 1921, in Earlville the daughter of Thomas and Kate (Dunkel) Brunkan.She attended Lebo Country School and attended St. Paul School in Worthington. She married Arnold Steffen on April 25, 1944, in Worthington. Together they farmed near Luxemburg until retiring in 1979, when they moved to New Vienna. Survivors include her children: Merlin (Karen) Steffen of Peosta, JoAnn Potter of Holy Cross, a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Steffen of Peosta, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, 3 step-great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Rosalie Brunkan of Worthington. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arnold on May 26, 1983, one son, Roger Steffen, son-in-law, Robert Potter, and a brother, Joseph Brunkan.
