Charles Leon Troester

Charles "Leon" Troester was born the son of Charles W. and Ida Mae (Tinkey) Troester on August 18, 1914 in his parents home in rural Osterdock. Leon was baptized and confirmed in St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Guttenberg February 19, 1939 by Pastor H.C. Coovert. He also served on St. Paul Church Council 3 terms. Leon received his education from the Friedlein Country School. He farmed with his family in rural Osterdock for 34 years until moving to Guttenberg in 1976. On April 16, 1941, he married Darlene M. Geuder in St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Garnavillo by Pastor Alexander Meyer. They were then blessed with 2 sons, Edward and Larry. After Leon moved to Guttenberg, he worked for Livingston Lumber and built many fences for area farmers. He also mowed lawns, shoveled and blew snow for many people and trimmed many bushes and small trees. Leon is survived by his wife Darlene of Guttenberg; two sons, Edward (Donna Bodensteiner) Troester of Marion IA and Larry (Lori) Troester of Chadwick IL; three grandchildren, Jason Troester of Chicago IL, Jamie (Russel) Bardell of North Platte NE and Curt (Bobbi) Troester of Knoxville IL; five great grandchildren, Megan, Marisa, Avery Troester of Knoxville IL and Brandon and Addie Jo Bardell of North Platte NE; one sister Lilith Kickbush of Guttenberg and one sister in law Janie Troester of Phoenix AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Margarite; one granddaughter, Roxanne and one brother Dwight. Leon loved his family, grandchildren, his church and many relatives and friends.In Lieu of flowers, plants, benches, statuary and all other gifts, the family has requested that all memorials be sent to St. Pauls Church in Guttenberg.Visitation: Thursday 9:00 - 10:00 A.M.
