Clara Nieland

Clara Elizabeth Nieland was born the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Boeding) Schmitt, April 14, 1902, on the family farm near Lucas, Iowa. She died Saturday, November 6, 2004, at Guttenberg Care Center. Clara graduated from the Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque; farmed with her family and was a homemaker for many years. On May 18, 1926, she was united in marriage with Joseph Nieland at St. Lukes Church in Lucas. She was active in St. Marys Church and St. Annes Society. She loved to crochet, quilt, and work on crafts; and was an excellent cook and active in community affairs. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Betty (Don) Evers of Guttenberg, and Darlene (Bob) Gerken of Dubuque; one son, Marvin Nieland of Marshalltown; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
