Dale John Demmer, 62, of Dyersville, Iowa died Monday, January 13, 2014 at his home. Friends may call from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014, at the new Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW, Dyersville, Iowa where American Legion Post 137 will conduct a service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate and military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Dale was born June 23, 1951 in Manchester, Iowa, the son of John and Evelyn (Willenbring) Demmer. He enlisted in the US Army and served in Vietnam as a combat engineer from 1969 - 1971. He married Patricia Prier on May 19, 1973, in New Vienna, Iowa. Dale and Pat owned and operated C&D Construction for 37 years. He was very generous with his time, donating many hours to the Dyersville Sportsman, Pike's Peak State Park and Boy Scout Camp C.S. Klaus. He was a member of American Legion Post 137 and served as a past president of the Dyersville Sportsman Club. Survivors include his fiance', Janet Duneman of Dyersville, 3 sons: Randy (Pam) Demmer of Dyersville, Terry (Jolee) Demmer of Dubuque and Chris Demmer of Marion; grandchildren: Tyler, Haley & Kayla Demmer, and Lauren Demmer; Janet's children: Sam Duneman of Milwaukee,Wi and Joe (fiance' Bobbi Jo Reiff) Duneman of Ames; his father-in-law, Eugene Prier of New Vienna; Siblings: Norma Tauke and Gary (Kay) Demmer, both of Dyersville, Donna (Charles) Vaske of New Vienna; brothers and sisters-in-law: Elaine (Clete) Urbain of Dyersville, Janice (Wayne L.) Steffen of New Vienna, David Prier of Marina, CA, Carl (Julie) Prier of New Vienna, Wayne (Beverly) Prier of Dyersville, Dale (Sandy) Prier of Hopkinton, Allen (Joyce) Prier of Elkader, Mark (Annette) Prier of Dubuque, Daniel (Kim) Prier and Donald (Christine) Prier, both of Dyersville; a brother-in-law, Mark Hermsen of Dubuque and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pat, in 2012, a sister, Lois Demmer, his mother-in-law, Lucille Prier, one sister-in-law, Lois Hermsen, and a brother-in-law, Ken Tauke. Memorials are preferred for a tree fund for Pike's Peak State Park, although our family's request is that, instead of memorials, please do something nice for your loved ones by giving your special someone some flowers or a nice gift in Dale's memory.
