David Arnold Bacon was born September 14, 1949, to Walter and Wanda (Sandhagen) Bacon. He graduated from the Garnavillo High School in 1968. After graduating he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served two years in Vietnam. Upon returning home he was the owner and operator of Bacon Construction in Garnavillo. Dave was an active member of the Garnavillo Fire Department for over 33 years and volunteered as a First Responder with the Garnavillo EMS for 33 years. He was also a founding member of the Plagman Barn Northeast Iowa Farm and Antique Association. He will be remembered for the countless hours he spent helping others in the community. David enjoyed tinkering with tractors and collecting antiques and equipment. Anytime children were around, especially his grandchildren, they were entertained by his garden tractor rides, fire truck rides and his rock-crushing exhibit at the Plagman Barn. David is survived by three sons, David (Wendy) Jr. of St. Charles, MN, Ryan (Anna) of McGregor and Jason of Garnavillo; one sister, Dianne (Gary) Torrey of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Marlyn (Laurie) of Hutchinson, MN and Wayne (Becky) of Garnavillo; grandchildren, Taylor and Kylie Bacon of St. of St. Charles, MN and Tricia and Tristan Bacon of McGregor. Special friend, Linda Augustine of Garnavillo; one uncle, Donald Bacon of Manchester; aunts, Arlene Bacon of Manchester, Delva Sandhagen of Strawberry Point and Faith Sandhagen of Lamont; nieces and nephews, Marsha Torrey, Susan (Rick) Karns, Christopher Champion, Lonnie (Jeanine) Bacon, Marlene (Daren) Barfknecht, Nikole (Jeff) Hoeger and Samantha Bacon; great nieces and nephews, Emersyn and Madisyn Bacon, Kalvin and Keaton Barfknecht, Lily, Colton and Tate Hoeger and Carter Westfall. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marylou Champion; niece, Elaine Torrey.
