NEW VIENNA, IOWA David W. Boeckenstedt, 85, of New Vienna, Iowa died Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville. Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a vigil service will be held at 3:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. and an American Legion service will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Rev. John O'Connor will officiate. David was born September 2, 1927, in New Vienna, Iowa, the son of Anton and Agnes (Beckmann) Boeckenstedt. He graduated from St. Boniface High School with the Class of 1946, and was a local truck driver and over the years worked for several companies in the area. He served in the Army during the Korean War Era from 1955 to 1957. David was a member of St. Boniface Parish and it's Holy Name Society, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 137, the Knights of Columbus Council 1734, the New Vienna Historical Society. He also served on the New Vienna-Luxemburg Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Survivors are his sister: Rose A. Boeckenstedt of New Vienna; 2 sisters-in-law: Marcella Boeckenstedt of Dyersville and Alice Boeckenstedt of Dubuque; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was a Godfather to Frank Boeckenstedt, Jeff Boeckenstedt, Jane Kuhlmann and Kim Lenaers. He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers: Charles (Alma), Arthur (Helen), James (Imelda), Mark (Agnes), Albert, Anthony (Julianna and Winnie), and Robert Boeckenstedt; and a sister, Dolores Boeckenstedt. We would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Oak Crest Manor for their care and concern and to the local clergy for visiting over these last two years.
