David L. Thiese was born the son of Ferdinand and Gertrude (Borcherding) Thiese on April 19, 1942 in rural Guttenberg. He died peacefully in his home Friday, June 16, 2006. David attended country school and graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1960. He later served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy and was involved with the Tonkin Gulf Incident. David spent many years working for Kerr-McGee Corp. as a plant manager in Garnavillo and later as District Sales Supervisor. On June 19, 1976, he was united in marriage with Norma Wefel at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. To this union they were blessed with four sons. He began farming full time in 1978. In May of 2005, David was the recipient of a lung transplant at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals, Madison, which has played an important part of his life this past year. David very much enjoyed farming, especially growing corn. He served on the Garnavillo School Board for many years and the NE Iowa Antique Association. David has a strong faith and his commitment to church was well recognized. David was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, and has been a lifelong member there. He was a church elder and also served as a youth group leader. He was a Ceres Pioneer Rock Church Association member. In his free time David enjoyed fishing for walleye, hunting and riding around on his Kawasaki Mule. Davids proudest possessions are his four sons and his two grandsons, Brandon and Ashton. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma; four sons, Brian (Tonya) Thiese, Adam Thiese, Eric Thiese and Mark Thiese all of Guttenberg; two grandsons, Brandon and Ashton; three sisters, Thelma Keehner of Luana, Vivian (Brent) Bruns of Monona, Angela (Ronnie) Schlueter of Wazeka, WI; two brothers, John Thiese of Guttenberg and Alan (Janice) Thiese of Macon, Ga. His lung brother, Bud Bristol, Baraboo, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew Matthew Schlueter and one brother in law Larry Keehner.Visitation: Monday 4:00-7:00 P.M.
