David Vorwald

David J. Vorwald, 63, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019, at home after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and the Dyersville and New Vienna Fire Department will gather at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019, St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery. Rev. Ralph Davis will officiate with Rev. Al Vorwald concelebrating. Dave was born March 12, 1955 in Fayetteville, NC, the son of Eugene and Delores (Goerdt) Vorwald. He graduated in 1973 from Leo High School. He married Mari Friedmann on June 1, 1974 in Luxemburg. Dave worked for Vorwald Construction for 15 years. Dave reluctantly resigned from his position as the public works director due to health on July 27, 2018 after 31 years. “I feel a sadness leaving behind me what has been an important part of my life. The City of Dyersville feels like family-retiring feels like moving away from home. While it has been a very challenging and rewarding career, I can only hope that I have left a positive legacy for future generations.” He also served on the Dyersville Fire Department for 18 years. Dave took great joy in entertaining family and friends at the cabin in Delhi. He was always looking forward to the next project with the help of his grandchildren. He was an advocate for the Lake Delhi revival and was rewarded by its return in 2017. His hobbies included camping, fishing, restoring RED tractors and collecting antiques. Dave is survived by his wife, Mari, children: Jason (Faith) Vorwald of Dyersville, Jill (Russ) Overton of Epworth, T.J. (Beth) Vorwald of New Vienna, grandchildren: Kaeli, Sydney and Parker Vorwald, Dakota (fiancé Elissa Heims) Vorwald, Tristen and Hunter Overton, Aria Vorwald, mother, Dorrie Vorwald of Holy Cross, siblings: Linda (Stan) Steffen of Luxemburg, Debbie Then and Donnie (Julie) Vorwald both of Holy Cross, in-laws: Carol Rosauer of Palm Springs, CA, Ed Jr. (Libby) Friedmann of Redfield, IA, Ken (Linda) Friedman of Tuscon, AZ, Stan (Carol) Friedmann of Luxemburg, Pat (Jim) McCormick of Granger, IA, Jeff (Nanci) Friedmann of Culver City, CA, Annette Ray of Coralville, IA. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene in 2012, brother, Mark Vorwald in 1980, parents-in-law, Ed (2005) and Anne (2003) (Franzen) Friedmann and his brother-in-law, Dave Then in 2012.
