Dean A. Ulbrich, 46, of Springfield, Ill., died at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at St. Johns Hospice. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, and one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 2, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Springfield, conducted by Pastor Greg Busboom and Pastor Ladd Sonnenberg. Dean was born Oct. 20, 1967, in Guttenberg, to Paul and Janice (Ludovissy) Ulbrich. He married Melissa Thompson on June 15, 1991. Dean was a United States Army veteran. He attended Iowa State University where he received a Bachelors Degree. He was a resident of Springfield for the past seven years, and worked as a Soybean Purity Supervisor for Monsanto. Dean was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. He enjoyed volunteering at and watching his sons sporting events. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Melissa of Springfield; one son, Alexander Ulbrich of Springfield; parents, Paul and Janice Ulbrich; three sisters, Kim (Dave) Miller, Wanda (Tony) Przymus, Sherry (Paul) Hunstad; two brothers, Dennis (Shelly) Ulbrich, and Doug (Beth) Ulbrich; brothers-in-law, Matthew (Marie) Thompson, Zachary (Jenica) Thompson, Christopher (Crystal) Thompson; two sisters-in-law, Jennifer (Tom) Barker, and Stephanie (Steve) Dykstra; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His mother-in-law, Sheila Thompson and brother-in-law, Chad Winch preceded him in death.
