Deloras Ruden

Deloras was born in Holy Cross on March 10, 1924, the daughter of Peter Schmitt and Cecelia (Meyer) Schmitt. She married Louie Ruden on November 4, 1947 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque, IA. She worked at the Ertl Toy Company in Dyersville and later worked as a clerk at the post office in Holy Cross. To all of her family and friends Deloras was known as Grandma Ruden. In her younger days she loved fishing and playing bingo. She never missed children's and grandchildren's ball games. She loved going to all the ball games in Holy Cross and did so until she couldn't anymore. She also loved her Yankees. She always enjoyed a good card game and cherished her vacations with her family in Branson, MO. Throughout her life her flower beds were her passion. She is survived by three sons: Rick (Ruth) of Cresco, IA, Jack (Sharon) of Epworth, IA, and Ken (Janet Engelken) of Holy Cross; four daughters: Lou Ann (Gene) Roling of Dyersville, IA, Kathy (Dan) Schmitt of Rickardsville, IA, Janie (Mike) Meyer of Elkport, IA, and Becky (Bill) Niehaus of Holy Cross; 22 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991, her parents, five brothers and four sisters. The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Manor for their excellent care and compassion.
