Donald Edward Kregel, 85 of Garnavillo, IA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 21, 2010. He was born the son of Arthur and Caroline (Wirkler) Kregel on December 25, 1924, on the home farm west of Garnavillo. He trusted Christ as his personal Savior on June 7, 1945 while reading John 1:11 & 12. After graduating from high school he farmed with his dad and brother-in-law Ray Lange. Then Don moved to Garnavillo and worked at the Garnavillo Mill. On November 15, 1947, Don married Elizabeth Lawson of Chicago, IL. To this union they were blessed with four children. Don & Betty moved to the home farm in and then in 1973 moved to a farm in St. Olaf. He farmed with his two sons and two grandsons until he retired in 1992 when he built a home in Garnavillo. He continued to have a deep interest in the farms and always helped wherever he could. Don was a faithful member of the Garnavillo Assembly. He also served as a director of the Garnavillo Savings Bank for many years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Kregel; four children, Steve (Lynn) Kregel, John (Esther) Kregel both of Garnavillo, Carolyn (Daryl) Aspenson of Gays Mills, WI and Patricia (Carl) Uhlenhopp of Marion, IA; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Verda Mae Guyer and Kathryn Lange.In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Garnavillo EMT, Garnavillo Library or the Central Community Hospital.Visitation: Tuesday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
