MONTICELLO, IOWA Donald P. McCarthy, 68, of Monticello died Sunday, February 16, 2014, at his residence after a long illness. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a funeral service will commence at 7:00 p.m. Private burial will be held at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello. Don was born August 4, 1945, in Cascade, Iowa the son of Loras and Isabella (Koob) McCarthy. He married Sandra Starks on November 28, 1964, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. He began his career at Energy Manufacturing in Monticello in 1964, and played many roles there for over 40 years. His latest role was as the Plant Supervisor. Don loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, camping or gardening. He also enjoyed a good card game. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandy; 4 children: Don (Pam) McCarthy, Jr. and Ron McCarthy, both of Monticello, Chris (Tully) Reilly of Manchester, and Jason (Debbie) McCarthy of Kansas City, MO; 6 grandchildren: Morgan (fiance Spencer Owen), Tyler and Courtney McCarthy, Kyle, Brent and Logan Reilly; 2 brothers: L.J. (Najette) McCarthy of Onslow and Ed (Sharon) McCarthy of Cascade; many brothers-and-sisters-in-law. He is preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, a sister-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimers Association.
