Obituary Donna Marie Pont, age 78, of Guttenberg, IA, died Wednesday, June 2, 2021. She was born on May 14, 1943 in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Harold and Evelyn Junk. Donna grew up in Waterloo where she graduated from Columbus Catholic High School with the class of 1961. On March 10, 1968, Donna was united in marriage with David Pont in Waterloo. Donna was the matriarch of our family and she has left some incredibly big shoes to fill. She loved Guttenberg and their home at Camp Hideaway which they made their permanent residence in 1985. She also opened Riverview Ice Cream and the Showroom Lounge that same year. She provided the community with a safe place to send their kids to play video games, have teen dances, and enjoy the best deli sandwiches and ice cream in town. She made this a family run business with Lee Ann, Brian and Marty all working with her. She had a dedicated work ethic and shared that with her kids and all of the others that worked for her through those years. Marty learned how to get fired by his Mom not once, but a few times only for her to chase him down the block to ask him where he was going and then inform him to get back to work! Not only did Donna move to her favorite spot and open a business in 1985, she also started sharing her artistic talent by teaching painting lessons. She worked hard, slept very little, and yet she found time to be an incredible wife, mom, grandma, sister, friend and neighbor. She sold the business in 1991 when her Mom passed away so she could focus more on her family. She continued to paint and she started crocheting. She would spend hours on the couch, watching her favorite TV shows with Dave and crocheting. She provided each of her family members with a hand crocheted afghan for Christmas one year. Now a reminder to all of us how tired hands never rest. She spent 16 years working at the Guttenberg and Clayton Ridge School Systems as a Para Educator, but if you ask most of the kids who were in school during 1998 and 2014, theyll tell you she was the lunch lady. She knew everyone by name and enjoyed swiping their lunch cards every day. She attended every event Angela participated in while in junior high and high school, and provided numerous meals to the girls in the Class of 2000. Probably best known for her roast, mashed potatoes with gravy and spaghetti. In the little bit of free time she allowed for herself, she enjoyed her flowers and keeping the bank weeded. She enjoyed baking and always had treats for those that visited. If she knew you were coming, there would always be a pan of Texas Brownies ready upon your arrival. She also loved shopping! More than once she has been referred to as the "Best Dressed." She loved the holidays, especially Christmas when the entire family would get together and she would cook an entire feast for everyone. She loved hosting, cooking, shopping and the smiles that came with each present that was opened and the laughter brought about by everyone being together. We are left with this incredible void in our hearts, but she has instilled in each one of us the strength, fight, and courage of a true warrior. She will be incredibly missed by her two sons, Brian (Val) Pont & Marty (Brandi) Pont; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers Bob Junk & Jim (Angie) Junk and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband David; daughter, Lee Ann Rice; sister in law, Pat Junk; 2 nephews, Jamie Junk & Nick Junk.
