Dorothy Ann Wach

Obituary Dorothy Ann Wach, age 82, of Guttenberg, IA, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018, at the Guttenberg Care Center after a 6 year struggle with breast cancer. Dorothy was born on April 9, 1936, the daughter of Joe and Verna Wach. She received her education from St. Marys School graduating in 1954. She had a great passion for music, animals, the Iowa Hawkeyes and just life in general. She possessed a wicked sense of humor, always ready with a witty reply. She was gifted too, in writing poetry for any occasion or life event. When she became disabled in 1973 and wheelchair bound, her love of music sustained her and her talents began to emerge. For many years, she recorded Christmas concerts by St. Marys Choir, the Guttenberg German Band and others, always gifting friends with CDs. When she mastered the computer, it became her lifeline. New technology didnt faze her, she embraced it. In later years, she received a powered wheelchair and it allowed her to enjoy the outdoors and freedom to go where she wanted. A fun day for her, was to cruise the river park and to watch the "Big Boats". If the Delta Queen sounded its calliope, she had to get there! One day, she was able to board that boat, the thrill of her lifetime. A woman of deep faith who accepted her many challenges in life, she faced one more with the fighting spirit that carried her throughout her life. Dorothy is survived by her brother Jerry (Ingrid) Wach, their son, David (Sarah) and daughters Abegail & Beatrice as well as many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be directed to St. Marys School, Camp Courageous, Easter Seals, Camp Sunnyside or to St. Croix Hospice.
