MONTICELLO, IOWA

Dorothy A. Kirby, 81, of Monticello, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

Visitation will begin at 9 am Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral services will commence at 11:30 am with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa. Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.

Dorothy was born December 28, 1943, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of William and Myrtle (Smith) Dirks. She married Tom Kirby on April 30, 1963, in Manchester. They later moved to Monticello.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed camping at Central Park, Bellevue and Gearhart Mountain. Dorothy loved watching her grandchildren’s activities, painting, going to the casino, and taking winter trips to Mission, TX. She enjoyed the short trips up to Hopkinton to play games and converse with friends.

Survivors include her daughters: Valerie (Curt) Bacon of Hopkinton, Theresa (Bob) Carlson of Monticello, and Laura (Rob) Gearhart of Coggon; grandchildren: Alecia and Jeremy (Rachel) Bacon and Devin Putz, Justin (Rhea) Carlson, and Ryan Gearhart and Jenna (Gavin) Krahmer; great grandchildren: Adalyn and Rowan Bacon, Caiden, Mila, and Wyatt Putz and Emmalee Carlson; in-laws: Helen Dirks of Monticello, Alan (Lorna) Kirby, Sandy Kirby, Ronald (Kathy) Kirby and Karen (Jim) Baumgartner, all of Strawberry Point; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom in 2020; two granddaughters: Stacey Carlson and Samantha Jo Putz; siblings: Eugene Dirks, Anna (Lawrence) Kray, Lavonne (Harold) Peters, Wanita (Gib) Nehl, and Helen (Bob) Drumbarger; parents-in-law, Paul and Helen Kirby; in-laws: Janette (Joseph) Strang, Robert Kirby, and Kenneth Kirby.
