GUTTENBERG, IOWA


Douglas John Jacobs, 62, of North Bay Village, FL, passed away of natural

causes on May 19, 2024 in Medellin, Colombia. Doug was a 1979 graduate of

Guttenberg High School.

After graduation, he served fours years in the US Marine Corps. Doug

completed his basic training at Camp Pendleton, CA, was later stationed in North

Carolina and in California, and completed an overseas tour on the maiden

voyage of the Navy ship USS Carl Vinson. Doug then completed BS and MS

degrees, with Honors, in computer science at Arizona State Universtiy. Doug

had numerous and extensive experiences and awards in his 30-year career

working in aerospace and avionics systems programming and design. Doug

enjoyed US and international traveling, river and ocean fishing, and elk and deer

hunting in Iowa and the US Southwest. Doug was also an avid hiker, having

scaled several western US mountain peaks and the depths of the Grand Canyon.


Doug is preceded in death by his twin brother, Dan Jacobs, his parents Jim

and Carol Jacobs of Guttenberg; his paternal grandparents, Walt and Lottie

Jacobs of Guttenberg; and maternal grandparents, Jack and Violet Schenke of

Colesburg.


He is survived by his siblings: Jeffrey Jacobs of Washington, DC;

Sue Jacobs of Elkader; and Sally (Seth) Gilkes of Robins, Iowa.
