Edna Ruby Thurber

Edna Ruby Thurber was born August 14, 1911 in Garber IA, the daughter of Willard and Lena (Weaver) Harbaugh. She was raised and received her education in Epworth IA. She worked in several boarding houses and this is where she first met Charles D. Thurber. She dated him for many years because neither of them made very much money and decided to delay their wedding. She married Charles November 24, 1937, in Cresco, IA and moved to a farm near Elkader, IA. They lived there for six years and then moved to Garnavillo. Edna went to the Garnavillo Gospel Hall to a series of Gospel meetings where she heard Mr. Klabunda and Mr. L. McBain preach the Gospel. On November 17, 1943, Edna trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. She faithfully worshipped the Lord at the Gospel Hall taking her six children with her. Edna was a cook for the Garnavillo School District. She also had her own bakeshop in her home and averaged sixty loaves of bread and rolls a week. She also baked cinnamon rolls for Thomas Restaurant. In the fall of 2002 Edna moved from Garnavillo to Forest Grove, OR. Here she lived with Norb and Ruth Thurber and she and Elsie became very special friends and scrabble players. She attended Westside Bible Fellowship and made many wonderful caring friends there. In November 2004 she went to Camelot Care Center where she resided until her passing on May 13, 2008 at the age of 96.
