Surviving are 2 sisters-in-law: Velma (Burnell) Lynch of Manchester, IA, and Ruth (George) Kinmonth of Bellevue, IA; 2 brothers-in-law, Donald (Rose Ann) VonLehmden of Dyersville, IA and Gilbert Knipper of New Vienna, IA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pearl, one son, Mark on Feb. 1, 1955; 6 brothers: Gregor, Hugo, Lawrence, Alphonse, Alois, and Vincent in infancy, 5 sisters: Mary Wessels, Dorothy Wessels, Hilda Klosterman, Catherine Hoefer and Celia Lindauer. Bud was born June 28, 1922 in New Vienna, Iowa the son of Joseph G. and Clara (Hullerman) Oberbroeckling. He married Pearl G. VonLehmden on December 27, 1944 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, IA. Together they farmed in the New Vienna area until retirement in 1974 when they moved to town. She preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2002. Bud continued to work at New Vienna Mutual Insurance where he served as a Director and President of the Board for 20 years. He also volunteered in the community as a member of the City Council and serving on the St. Boniface Cemetery Board. Some of his hobbies included traveling with Pearl, woodworking and repairing clocks. Edwin L. "Bud" Oberbroeckling, 85, of New Vienna, Iowa died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville after a brief illness. Friends may call from 3 - 8 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O'Connor will officiate. Memorials are preferred.
