Survivors include his wife, Leona, sons: Dave "Moose" (Judy) of Dyersville, IA and James (Jane) of New Vienna, IA; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and several brothers-and-sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Valeria (Paul) Beckmann, a granddaughter-in-law, Jackie Niehaus, and several brothers-and-sisters-in-law. Eldrew was born on April 26, 1918, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Leo and Camilla "Millie" (Jasper) Niehaus. He married Leona Langel on May 1, 1941, in Dyersville, Iowa. Eldrew began as a partner with his dad in a construction company designing and building houses. Because of WWII, there were no building materials available so he then worked as a mechanic at Scherrman's Implement for over thirty years. Friends may call from 2 - 7 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2008, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 4:00 p.m. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Oak Crest Manor, who have become family and excellent caregivers over these last 20 years.
