Elizabeth Tapke

Betty was born on July 22, 1935, near Garnavillo, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Irene (Miller) Rohner. She married Bernard "Bernie" Tapke on May 22, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. Betty worked at the Guttenberg Care Center for 20 years until retirement in 1997. She and Bernie enjoyed wintering in Texas for the last 14 years. Survivors include her husband, Bernie, 5 children: Steve (Karen) Tapke and Alan Tapke, both of Dyersville, Mark (Audrey) Tapke of Peosta, Gary (Lori) Tapke of Waterloo and Diane (Rick) Steffen of Luxemburg; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; 5 siblings: Marie (Art Essman) Benskin of Guttenberg and Donald (Janice) Rohner, both of Guttenberg, David (Pat) Rohner and Dorothy (Keith) Wendell, both of Garnavillo, and a sister-in-law, Doris Bierman of Epworth. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Marcella (Dick) Dodge, 2 brothers-in-law, Herman Benskin and Dave Bierman, and a sister-in-law, Ann Soppe. Friends may call beginning at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, Iowa where a memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Raymond Burkle. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
