Ernestine was born on August 10, 1913, in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Bruggemann) Willenborg. She married Cyril "Cy" Krapfl on January 31, 1939, in Petersburg, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Petersburg area until retiring in 1974 when they moved to Dyersville. Ernestine loved quilting and needlework, a hobby that led her to be an instrumental member of the Basilica Volunteer Quilters. She literally made hundreds of quilts for the Layettes continuing her passion even at Oak Crest Manor. She just wasn't happy unless she had a quilt on the rack.
