Eugene H Holthaus

Eugene H. Holthaus, age 82, of Guttenberg, IA, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born on June 5, 1934 in Worthington Iowa, the son of Howard and Hazel Holthaus. Eugene graduated from the Edgewood High School, attended Upper Iowa University and eventually received his Masters degree from the University of Iowa. Eugene worked many years for the College Community School District in Cedar Rapids as a teacher, coach and principal. On January 7, 1956, Eugene was united in marriage with Kay Brown at the Colesburg Methodist Church and the two were later blessed with 3 children. Gene loved to spend his free time hunting, fishing and pontooning with family and friends. Eugene is survived by his 3 children, Caprice (Elmer Jr.) Waldschmidt of Thornton Colorado, Shauna Dennison of Lisbon and Bradley (Tammy) Holthaus of Labadieville Louisiana; 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Kristopher, Devin, Kadie, Dylan and many other relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and wife Kay in 2005.
