Eugene Loeffelholz

NEW VIENNA, IOWA Eugene "Gene" L. Loeffelholz, 67, of New Vienna died peacefully at home Friday, August 2, 2013, surrounded by his family and friends. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Al Vorwald. Gene was born July 15, 1946 in Guttenberg, Iowa, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Oberbroeckling) Loeffelholz. Gene married Diane Schaub on June 17, 1967 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. He worked at Ertl's for 35 years until it closed and then worked at Scale Models until his illness. He was very loving to his wife, kids and grandkids. Gene was a member of the Tri-County Sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors. He served as a councilman, mayor and fireman in New Vienna. He was proud of his community. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane; 3 children, Jeff "Bucky" (Amy) Loeffelholz, Diana Loeffelholz, and Cheri (John) McAuliffe; 5 grandchildren, Ben and TJ Henderson, Elizabeth McAuliffe, and Piper and Sadie Loeffelholz; siblings, Kay (Fred) Schaffer and David (Joyce) Loeffelholz; mother-in-law, Sylvia Schaub; in-laws, Fred (Brenda) Schaub, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Elmer Schaub; niece, Stephanie Schaub, and a great-nephew, Aiden Schaffer. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, the medical staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and all our family and friends for all their love and support.
