Eunice Desotel

Eunice (Alt) DeSotel, age 95, recently of Cedar Rapids formerly of Guttenberg, IA, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was born on April 1, 1918, in Clayton Township to Albert and Kate (Meyer) Alt. Eunice received her education from the local country school in Clayton Township. Later she married Edward DeSotel at St. Paul Church in Garnavillo. Together they operated a Hotel in Independence in their early years. They were later blessed with a daughter Regina. Much of Eunices life was spent making a home for her family. She used her green thumb in the garden growing many different vegetables that provided her family with nourishment. She enjoyed keeping her home decorated with many different species of flowers. She was a very faithful member of St. Paul for much of her life. Eunice was a very good cook. She prepared many things that were enjoyed by friends and family especially her potato salad. She never really enjoyed baking but she was fantastic at it though. There was never a shortage of delicious cakes, cookies and other baked goods around the house. Eunice is survived by her daughter, Regina (Earl) Ackerman of Guttenberg; three grandchildren, Gabe Ackerman, Travis Ackerman and Brandy Boer; five great grandchildren, Dakota, Hunter, Marijane, Ozbourne, Marley and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two brothers, Harlan and Clarion Alt.The family of Eunice DeSotel would like to extend a very sincere thank you to St. Lukes Hospice and to Silver Pines for their compassion and care that she received during her time with them.Visitation: Saturday 9:00 - 10:00 A.M.
