Evelyn Alma (Behrend) Walter was born the daughter of Frederick and Henrietta (Horsch) Behrend, September 5, 1916, in Guttenberg, Iowa. She died Thursday, October 21, 2004, at Guttenberg Care Center. Evelyn graduated from the Guttenberg High School in 1933; worked at the American Pearl Button Co.; farmed, and was a homemaker for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid Society and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting. On November 20, 1940, she was united in marriage with Martin W. Walter at Trinity Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Marion Rife of Niles, Michigan; two sons, Martin C. (Barbara) Walter of Guttenberg, and Frederick (Irene) Walter of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Rhonda (Warren) Schroeder, Pamela (Chris) Finn, Eric (Tiffany) Walter, Erin (Bradley) Smith, Terrie Rife, and Brandi (Michael) Henson; eight great-grandchildren, Wheaton, Emily, and Adam Schroeder, Declan and Connor Finn, Mason and Jayden Walter and Nathan Henson; one sister, Miriam Anderegg of Guttenberg; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Vera in infancy and Eleanor, and two brothers, Walter and Clifford Behrend.Visitation: 3:00-5:00 P.M.
