Florence Louise Bierbaum was born the daughter of Otto and Mary (Kregel) Meyer on October 28, 1914 on the home farm on Jolly Ridge, south of Guttenberg. She passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at the Guttenberg Care Center. Florence attended the Jolly Ridge Country School and then one year at Guttenberg High School. On April 28, 1934 she was united in marriage with Alvin A. Bierbaum at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Guttenberg which was also the church that she was baptized and confirmed at. This union brought three children into their lives. Together Florence and Alvin farmed for many years and raised their children at home. Florence enjoyed spending time sewing, quilting, playing cards, especially kings corners. They would even strike up a card game with the neighbors on occasion. Florence volunteered her time to; teach Sunday School, she was also involved with the mission society, WELCA, the church choir and many other church activities. Dancing with her husband, traveling, watching John Wayne movies and Lawrence Welk were a few things that brought joy to Florences life. Florence took great pride in her ability to play the piano and the organ. She enjoyed playing anywhere and anytime. She would play at the Assisted Living Center and the Guttenberg Care Center when she could. She was known for providing after dinner music for all to enjoy. She was also known as the walking lady of Garnavillo as she often patrolled the streets on foot. In her years at the care center she was excited to go for a car ride with her family and friends and all will miss her trademark.... her smile. Florence is survived by her, daughter, Diane (Richard) Grave of Guttenberg; two sons, Alvin C. Bierbaum of Saint Paul, Minn. and Kris (Linda) Bierbaum of Travelers Rest, S.C.; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin on April 10, 2000; her parents, great grandson Derek Friedlein and five siblings, Walter, Leola, Marie, Clarence and Hazel.Visitation: Saturday 12:00 - 1:00 P.M.
