Mrs. Clemen was born October 10, 1911 in Holy Cross, the daughter of Edward and Catherine (Ellerbach) Hayes. She married Leonard Clemen on May 9, 1933 in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Survivors include 3 daughters, Kathleen (Albert) Trenkamp of Dyersville, IA, Virginia (Bill) Juran of Holy Cross, IA and Madonna (John) Weimerskirch of St. Catherine, IA; 5 sons, Edwin (Rosie) Clemen of New Vienna, IA, Leon (LaVonne) Clemen and Roger (Jane) Clemen both of Holy Cross, IA, Ambrose Clemen of Hendersonville, TN and Cletus (Grace) Clemen of East Dubuque, IL; 31 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Clara Klaren of Luther Manor, Dubuque, IA and Viola Avery of Dubuque; 2 brothers, Louis (Ruth) Hayes of Holy Cross, IA and Clem Hayes of Dubuque, IA; a sister-in-law, Joan Hayes of Dubuque, IA. Frances was preceded in death by her husband on June 9, 2002, three sisters, Genevieve Duster, Delia Duster and Evalena Schultz, and one brother, Virgil Hayes. She and her husband farmed in Holy Cross until their retirement in 1975. She was a member of the Holy Cross Rosary Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
