Francis Joseph Meyer, age 92, of Guttenberg, IA, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Guttenberg Care Center. He was born one of four children to Frank and Caroline (Curran) Meyer on April 15, 1919 in Littleport Iowa. Francis received his education from St. Marys School graduating in 1939. On November 12, 1942, Francis was united in marriage with Marjorie Saylor in Blair Nebraska. Francis later served his country during WWII in the United States Coast Guard. After his honorable discharge, Francis returned to Iowa where he pursued a long career as a River Boat Captain for 43 years. Being on the river was a very large part of Franciss life whether it was for work, play or time spent fishing. Francis also cherished all the birthdays, graduations, weddings and events he could be a part of with his family. Captain Francis Meyer is survived by his three children, Sharon Neverman and Ken, Roger (Patty) Meyer and Kimberly Meyer; daughter in law Karen Meyer; seven grandchildren, sixteen grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Eglseder and of course his dog Puddles. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marjorie; son Dale "Butch" Meyer; one great grandchild, Christian Alexander; two siblings, Leo Meyer and Margaret Vorwald.In Lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy, memorials for Francis Meyer may be sent to 430 S Bluff St. Guttenberg, Iowa 52052, to be distributed to various organizations that Francis was fond of.Visitation: Sunday 2:00 - 6:00 P.M.
