Francis Schaefers

Francis Xavier Schaefers was born the son of George and Leona (Matt) Schaefers, October 14, 1932, on the family farm near Garnavillo. He died Thursday, August 4, 2005, at Guttenberg Care Center. Francis received his education from the Volga (Iowa) Public School, and farmed with family for many years. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 4148. He enjoyed farming, flee markets, antique tractors and working on his model A. On October 15, 1960, he was united in marriage with Pearl Gaul at St. Francis Xavier Church in Dyersville. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Pearl; two daughters, Marie (LeVirgil) Monroe of Clermont, and Betty (Tom) Callan of Manchester; five sons, Michael Schaefers of Monona, Jerry (Lynda) Schaefers of Guttenberg, Andy (Sandy) Schaefers of Garnavillo, Christopher (Brenda) Schaefers of Edgewood, and Alex (Amanda) Schaefers of Mc Gregor; twenty-one grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (Harold) Mueller of Garnavillo, and Mary Schaefers of Volga; two brothers, Greg (Marge) Schaefers of Center Point, and Lavern (Connie) Schaefers of Wadena; two uncles, Delbert Matt of Garnavillo and Harold Schaefers of Kansas; and numerous brother and sister in laws; nieces, nephews and friends.
