Fred Hauschild

Fred Gilbert "Gib" Hauschild, age 101 years young, of Guttenberg, IA, died Friday, May 17, 2013, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. Fred was born at home on March 4, 1912, in Dorchester IL., the son of Otto & Pearl Hauschild. Fred attended Adams Country School in IL. He went into the Army and served during WWII in the European and Pacific Theaters where he earned two bronze stars for Northern France and the Rhineland Campaigns. Fred married Dorothy Stiller in 1942, who in a few months (July) died of cancer. On April 1, 1943 in Palmyra, MO., he married Louise Stiller and to this union three sons were born (Russell, John, Robert "Bill"). Fred moved his family to Iowa in 1951 and farmed near Manchester, Garber, Littleport, and Elkader. In 1975 he retired from farming and moved to Guttenberg where he then worked at Trademark Homes. He was a very active man who shared his passion for fishing and playing cards. He had many stories to share about life, which he captured with some humor. Surviving is his son John (Geri) of Cedar Rapids; two daughters in law, Linda of Edgewood and Linda of Garber; 9 grandchildren, JoEllen (Steve) Middlekauff, Jason (Jacque) Hauschild, Joshua (Emily Logan) Hauschild all of Cedar Rapids, Jennie Hauschild of New York City NY, James (Kathy) Hauschild of Manchester, Kurt (Terene) Hauschild of Monona, Gianna (Tim) Manternach of Strawberry Point, Chad Hauschild of Farmersburg and Melisa (Adam) Reilly of Cedar Falls; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and another due in January. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Dorothy and Louise; two sons, Russell and Robert "Bill"; great grandson, William Fred Hauschild and one brother Stanley.Fred desired to have his body donated to the University of Iowa Anatomy program.
