Frederick L. Vorwald, 73, of New Vienna, Iowa died Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will be held 2-8 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 5 pm. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017, St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Rev. John O’Connor will officiate and Rev. Al Vorwald will concelebrate. Fred was born November 30, 1943, in New Vienna the son of Alfred and Irene (Fangmann) Vorwald. Fred served in the US Army from 1963 – 1964. He married Carol Deutmeyer on June 6, 1964, in Petersburg. He drove a semi for 43 years for Warren Transport out of Waterloo, logging over 4 million accident free miles. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing cards and teasing his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Carol, children: Lisa (Brian) Fettkether of Dyersville, Karla (Kent) Ashline of Guttenberg, Wendy (Steve) Steger of Herington, KS, and Jeff (Beth) Kaiser of Dubuque; grandchildren: Rachel and Logan Fettkether, Nicole, Alicia and Mitchell Ashline, Ashley and Justin Wilson, and Zach, Amanda and Colton Steger; siblings: Carl (Debbie) Vorwald of New Vienna, Jan Lex and Arlene Vorwald, both of Dubuque, Jean Driscoll of Mechanicsville, Donna (Jeff) Jacque of Dyersville, Marian (John) Schmidt of Holy Cross; and a sister-in-law: Mary Lou Vorwald of Dyersville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Jill Wilson, a brother, Jim, and brothers-in-law: George Driscoll and Jim Lex.
