Frederick M. Wessels, 87, of, Brownsburg, Indiana and formerly of Dyersville, Iowa died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. Fred was a resident at Meadows Senior Care Facility in Brownsburg, IN. Visitation will be held 2 – 7 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. and an American Legion/V.F.W service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday from 2 – 3 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Jeff Dole will officiate and American Legion Post 137 and V.F.W Post 7736 will accord military honors. Fred was born August 14, 1928, in New Vienna, Iowa the son of Clarence and Anna (Bockenstedt) Wessels. He graduated New Vienna High School with the class of 1947. Fred married Norma Jean Maiers on November 11, 1950, in Holy Cross, Iowa. Fred served in the Army from 1951 – 1953 and was stationed in Germany. After his military service he was a residential plumber in the Dyersville area for 40 years. Fred was very active in the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, socializing and penny slots at the casino. Survivors include one son Ron of Earlham, IA, a daughter, Susanne (Roger) Manternach of Brownsburg, IN, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; siblings: Phyllis (Doc) Clemens, of Rock Falls, IL, Mary Lou White, of Kearney, NE, sisters-in-law: Gladys Knipper and Dorthy Maiers both of Dyersville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma in 2011, four sons: Richard in 1992, Randy in 2009, Rodney and Russell in infancy, in-laws: Germaine (Arnold) Schuster, Eileen (Clarence) Engelken, Paul Rahe, Vernon White, Ruth (Wayne) Osenberg, Merlin Maiers and Virgil Knipper.
